Robert Mondavi Wines: Still In Style and a Great Holiday Gift
One of the most memorable
wine experiences Ugo and I
have ever had was a trip we
took several years ago to the
famed Mondavi Winery in
California’s Napa Valley. From
the various tours through
vineyards and winery, we were
in awe at the level of
sophistication and care taken in
the production of these world
famous wines. After being wined
and dined lavishly over our stay,
we selected what we thought
were the most special and
unique wines we could bring
back and showcase in our wine
boutique.
We have put together some very
special and extremely rare gift
sets featuring these wines. The
wines have been stored at
proper cellar temperature and
are in very limited quantity.
Gift Set No. 1
This package features three
single-vineyard cuveés: A 2000
Fumé Blanc from the famous ’To
Kalon’ vineyard in Napa Valley.
Barrel-aged to allow the wine to
develop and grow in complexity,
only 441 cases were produced; a
|
real collector's item. A 2001
Chardonnay from the Huichica
Hills in Carneros that was made
in the style of a fine Burgundy.
Finally, a 1999 Cabernet
Sauvignon ’Marjories Sunrise’
again from a very small block of
vines. The wine spent 17 months
in new French oak and was
bottled unfiltered. Just reaching
the window of its maturity, this
Cabernet should continue to age
for many years to come. Only
200 cases were produced.
Gift Set No. 2
Our next selection features two
of Mondavi’s most well-known
Napa Valley red wines, the
’Equilibrium’, from the Stags
Leap District appellation, and
the ’Boomerang’ from Oakville.
Both wines are from the
excellent 2001 vintage; the
former fashioned as a Bordeaux
blend, the latter, a unique
Barossa Valley cuvée. Both are
quintessential Napa Valley: big,
bold, fruit-forward, in- your-face
gutsy wines. They will provide
pleasure now and well into the
future.
In addition, many of our
traditional holiday specialty
items are now available at La
Grotta, including such delicacies
as foie gras, caviar, comfit duck
breast, truffle cheeses, Red Deer
or pheasant sausage, just to
name a few.
